I bought a bike

One of the bike shop workers mentioned that I should check the Decathlon store for a bike. That was a real blessing because I found the perfect bike there, and even after adding fenders, bottle cage and water bottle, and a rack for my panniers, it cost me less than what I had anticipated spending!
It is a Riverside 500, made in France.

Once I got it out of the store I had the biggest grin on my face. It was so good to be back on a bike.

Today was spent wandering around the old city, and of course, checking out bike and souvenir shops. I've also been spending time getting the ultimate stage of my journey arranged. I have a place to stay near the start of my ride and I have train tickets for myself and my bike.

The old town of Zurich is beautiful. I even took the bike out again (once that I had my locking cable with me) and road around the riverfront. Here's some random pictures for you to enjoy.

Thanks for riding along with me. I've been enjoying the comments.

He was a Swiss theologian and leader of the Swiss Reformation. That must be the Sword of the Lord he is wielding. For those that have problems with Roman numerals (unless it has to do with the Super Bowl) he lived from 1484 to 1531.

These Love locks are on most every bridge here. I read that one city had to cut them off a bridge because they were causing an excessive load on the structure.

An electric tram. There are so many rail tracks in the city that you have to be careful riding on the street. Luckily there are also lots of dedicated bike lanes.

Water fountain. Seriously, you can stop and get a drink. Sort of like the bubblers in Portland.

Flying the flag

I plan to visit here tomorrow

You can't believe the number of bikes in the city! Gas costs the equivalent of $10 a gallon so I guess that explains it.

Google has an office here. You know how i enjoy unusual toilet signs.

Did I mention I was happy to get back on a bike?

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."  I'm not staying there!

Swans a swimming

Another view down the river

Not quite a canoe. Unique to here. Probably some history to this kind of boat.

  1. Nice day in Zurich. We met a really nice German couple on our trip to France that live near Düsseldorf. They speak flawless English and we could reach out to them to see if they would be interested in meeting up with you when you get to that point in your trip. Let us know if you’re interested.
It’s great that you found the perfect bike!

  3. I just looked up Hilden and see that it is close to the Rhine. If they are interested in meeting me that could be fun. I'm not sure when I'll be in that area. Go ahead and give them my blog link and let them know I'm always up for meeting new people, especially friends of friends.

  4. Thanks for suggesting it! It has turned into quite an adventure, and most of the things I've worried about have worked out OK. Love you!
