I found Worms!

This was a real confusing day. I missed so many turns that i think I was off route about half the day. Always found my way back before losing it again. Once one of the signs took me to a dead end!

But, despite all that, it was a good day of riding and I got to my place at a decent time. Felt better today than yesterday. That was a bonus.

Weather is a factor in my rides. Today was 91°  Tomorrow will be 92°.  That's a heat warning here and means I need to be real mindful of my hydration and meals along the way. Sunday will be 76° and some rain and thunderstorms. Should get.better after that.

Both yesterday and today I was able to book a place close to the route. Tomorrow will be a bit further from the route, but manageable.

You might have guessed where I am by the title. I'm in the city of Worms, Germany. The city is famous for "The Edict of Worms" where Luther was declared a heretic. There's a monument to him in town. I might try to see it tomorrow.

Little chapel on the way. As with most of these pictures I can neither confirm nor deny they were on the official route.

Passed a lot of agricultural fields

Ludwigshafen is the home of BASF. The chemical facility is huge! It is 5 kilometers long and covers 10 square kilometers. There are hundreds of these red single speed bikes that employees use to get around the complex on.

An equestrian facility.

Cool bridge. Inside there are stairs and bicycle tracks for smoothly getting your bike to the top of the bridge. With today's heavy ebikes I think it could be a challenge.

Even when lost, I had nice cycle paths.

Swallows welcome
We're taking part - we're there!

More pretty flowers.

A side by side tandem bike. What do you think about getting one Susan?

First view of Worms off in the distance.

This impressive bridge is right by my hotel. There is a less impressive modern one next to it so they can handle more traffic.

How it looked in the olden days.

Hard to make out, but this is an 80 year old,  4 man rowing crew boat hanging upside down from the ceiling of the restaurant.

That's all for tonight. I'll be in Mainz tomorrow night.

Sleep well my friends!

  1. Since you seem to be continually lost, I’m curious why you don’t have a GPS? We would have been lost a lot in France if we didn’t have one.

My last day of exploiting

I got an early start this morning well, early for me. I wanted to beat the heat today, but I ended up staying out till the best came.  ...
